The crew of the [[STEAM|Arripio]] had ensconced themselves in hibernation/stasis capsules... but a thousand years is too long to expect these devices to sustain life. When [[Dr. Desmond|Dr. Desmond Whitfield - Medical Officer]] and [[Alaric Petral| ]]found the airship and opened the capsules, the crew were long since dead... all but one.

Tactical Officer Kirkland, was alive and in perfect stasis. It seems that he was actually an elf, and landing upon the mana-rich world of Ya'Riah enabled his metabolism to cease aging (like all other elves.)
